President Trump's predicament with Greenland

Tensions are really heating up when it comes to Trump threatening to take over Greenland and expanding the US territory to Greenland. Reported to by BBC, President Emmanuel Macron of France said to President Trump in a private message, “I do not understand what you are doing in Greenland”. He offered to have dinner in Paris with Trump and with other nations to discuss what Trump’s plans are with Greenland. Trump declined the offer.

When President Macron was speaking about the predicament with Trump threatening high tariffs in Davos, Switzerland, he talked about working with the US. He said how “we do prefer respect to bullies. We do prefer science to plotism, and we do prefer rule of law to brutality.” Emmanuel Macron is saying how he prefers to be treated with respect than conversing with bullies, also how the government doesn’t work with people who create conspiracy theories and have no evidence supporting their claims.

After Emmanuel Macron spoke, President Trump threatened raising tariffs, proving himself to be a bully as Macron said. After Trump spoke, the S&P 500 dropped more than 1 percent. The US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, informed European nations that they should “sit back, take a deep breath, do not retaliate.” He believes that everything will be fine,” and that President Trump will go to Davos and will speak about what he believes will happen and what he has in store for the future. Trump then spoke in an interview, saying how he will not use excessive force to pursue Greenland. Following this statement, the stock market went up the next day right as it opened.

This whole situation is something you don’t see often and something that is out of the ordinary for a regular president. After researching more, Trump feels the need to take over Greenland for the “Golden Dome” which is a missile defence program to block incoming missiles. Furthermore, Trump believes that Russia and China are “dominating the arctic" and he is fearful of them taking over the region.

Finally, it doesn’t matter how concerned he is about Russia and China. If he tries to take over Greenland he will definitely need to use The Golden Dome more than he would if he didn’t try to take over Greenland.
