Start of the Girls' Soccer season

The Galloway Girls Varsity soccer team had their first game of the season on February 9th. Prior to the game, Head Coach Sarah Armstrong said, “We are hopeful that the girls soccer team will have a successful, competitive season this spring.” The girls played a hard-fought game against former state champions, Pinecrest, where they were mercy ruled.

The girls are currently practicing five times per week after school, where they are focusing on working as a team on the field. According to number three, Calla Davies, they are building “a team that is successful.” Davies said that she hopes that “we are able to win many games and build community within our team.” A core value of the Galloway Girls soccer team is teamwork and community. Coach Armstrong talked highly of two of her captains, Sarah Solomon and Caroline Ingram, stating that they are “both extremely skilled and smart players.”  As well as saying third captain Alexandra Ramsey will “certainly prove herself to be a dependable, consistent player in the back line.”

The girls team had back-to-back games where the next day, February 10th at Weber, where they won 6-0. Now they have 7 games left in the regular season, starting off with a 3-5 record. They are also coached by parent, Brett Curry, who is a new addition to the team this year.

The girls season record last year was 8-14, and they hope to continue success this year, with an even stronger season. The first round of the girls state championship will commence on April 23rd, and if the girls are able to make it, the championships will be held somewhere between May 12-15. The girls always love support, and it is what has been able to drive them so far through the state championships in past seasons, so be sure to show up to as many games as you can!
