The Collaboration that Saved “Fortnite” and Ruined our Wallets
Most people have heard of the massive success known as “Fortnite.” This level of success comes from not only its gameplay, but also the outrageous collaborations the company, Epic Games, has been able to secure in the past. Its most recent addition is a franchise that many millennials and Gen Z’ers know very well: “Dragon Ball.” Loved by many, “Dragon Ball” is one of the top animated franchises to come out of Japan
Although “Fortnite” is one of the top selling games in the world, its active player base fluctuates. When a large-scaled in game event occurs, the game sees high spikes in player rates--the new Dragon Ball Super collaboration is a recent example of this. Bringing new ideas into the game severely benefits not only Epic Games, but also the partnering companies or individuals.
Combining one of the top watched anime of all time to one of the most played games created a powerhouse of an event that introduced brand new players and brought many fans back to the game. My friends and I took on this brand new event after not playing for years, and as one might expect from brash teens, we emptied our wallets and bought new skins. The skins included four of the main characters from the show and they were really well designed. The gameplay was also amazing. It introduced cool items and also beams that are in the show.
“Fortnite” had not only shown us a great time, but it had also brought friends back to a game that had once brought us closer. The gameplay was so entertaining that I soon found myself begging friends to download the game and play with me so they could experience the phenomenon once more.
Now, I understand that “Fortnite” might not be the game for you. I also realize that some individuals couldn’t care less about Dragon Ball. Regardless of these two possibilities, I feel that giving the game a shot could open up wonderful possibilities. If it were up to me, everyone would be giving “Fortnite” a shot, but ultimately, the choice is yours.
