Galloway Sports Update: Week 09/19/22-09/25/22
This past week, 09/19 - 09/25, the Galloway School participated in several matches across many sports and teams.
Starting off with Varsity Softball, they played a tough home game against Mount Vernon. Although the team, led by Katie Leslie ‘24 and Amelia Pierce ‘24, had won their previous game 9-8, they suffered an unfortunate loss 0-16 against our school rivals. Bouncing back from the loss, the softball team won 6-5 against St. Francis on Wednesday night. Their record is now 2-9.
Moving on to the JV Volleyball team, they played two different games this week. Under the leadership of Ella Bohntinsky ‘24, Lila Keaton ‘25, and Jewell Arrington ‘25, they defeated Brandon Hall in three sets in an away game. And on Wednesday, they beat Weber 2-0.
The Varsity Volleyball team, captained by Zoey Horn ‘23, Sariah Robbins ‘23, and Chase Buffington ‘23, competed against Atlanta Classical Academy(ACA) and Weber. The result of the game against ACA was a clean sweep with Galloway winning both sets by large margins. This hot streak was kept up against Weber, where they won 2-0. They defeated Trinity Christian 2-1 later in the week. Great job last week going 3-0! Their overall record is 9-12.
The Cross Country team had a great weekend! With nineteen runners earning a new personal record (PR) in their respective races, the team shined as a whole. Three runners in particular, Maya Swinsburg ‘26, Lillie Neidlinger ‘26, and Simon Brees ‘23, finished top ten. The boys combined to finish second in the meet while the girls finished in fourth place! Great job to the program!
Finally, The Galloway Debate Team did amazing this past week. Two members of the JV team, Emerson Waller ‘25 and Mac Anderson ‘25, were co-champions of the meet, Nora Perez-Rubio ‘25 and Jake Isenberg ‘25 were octofinalists, and Diya Gundlapalli ‘23 and Margaret Edmonds ‘23 have advanced to the quarter finals. This is the furthest in school history!
