Victoria Monet Jaguar Review

Victoria Monet is a talented and prolific R&B artist primarily known for her writing credits for artists such as Ariana Grande and Pharell. She has several full-length albums, all of which I implore you to listen to but her latest album, Jaguar, is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Monet has a specific R&B style that is beautifully showcased in this work. The 2020 album perfectly encapsulates who Monet is as an artist and how she continues to grow her breathtaking discography. “Moment,” the introductory track on the album, is a sensual R&B song that uses subtleties and innuendos to create a seductive aura, which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Later in the album, the dreamy ukulele interlude We Might Even Be Falling In Love showcases Monet’s musical versatility as she explores different themes of R&B. The title track, “Jaguar,”  is a not-so subtle ode to sex that celebrates the female experience, and with alluring vocals and a well-produced instrumental, the track does everything but disappoint.

Possibly the most enticing aspect of this project is the visuals. From the cover art to the promotional photoshoot to the design of the vinyl, Monet lays out a cohesive aesthetic that perfectly captures the vibe of the album. The music videos embody this same earthy, golden-hour aesthetic that defines this era in Monet’s career. Though visuals may seem like a minor detail, the impact they can have on a project can be unbelievable. Monet and her team deserve the utmost praise for the album’s promotion.

Though the album was meticulously created, it is very short in length. It contains only nine songs, two of which are interludes. However, Monet is expected to release the highly anticipated Jaguar Part 2 later this year. The lead single to the album’s second half, “Coastin’”, was released this past summer and has continued the ever-growing excitement for Monet’s upcoming album.
