Spongebob Creator Stephen Hillenburg Has Died
Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of Spongebob, died on November 26th at 57. It was due to ALS/Lou Gehrig's. Hillenburg studied marine biology in college, but he decided to pursue a different career. Hillenburg obtained a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts in 1992 because of his passion for drawing. Shortly after that, Hillenburg began working on a Nickelodeon show, Rocko’s Modern Life. In the late nineties, he began sketching possible characters for a new show, which later became Spongebob.
Spongebob seems to have been on television forever. It has been on for eighteen years, which is an extremely long time for a cartoon. The unique characters and setting of Spongebob attract a wide audience. Kids have grown up watching Spongebob and buying Spongebob shaped popsicles from ice cream trucks. The once popular Nickelodeon hotel featured Spongebob decor as well. Hillenburg created the show and characters that so many children loved and enjoyed. It is sad to see Hillenburg, the original genius behind Spongebob, pass away, but Spongebob will always remain.
