Excursion Recap New York: Oliver Kaszubski and Sydney Daniels
An excursion is defined as a deviation from a regular path or pattern, and every late February, our school proves why that deviation is needed. For two weeks, classrooms are traded for real world experiences which can range from jogging the BeltLine to stepping foot inside the Coliseum. Each trip leads somewhere different and offers every student an unforgettable experience, but we often don’t hear those stories or multiples from every excursion. Until now, in this first fully collaborative article, students will share their individual experiences and reflect on what they have learned.
New York: Oliver Kaszubski and Sydney Daniels
The New York City excursion was an immersive experience focusing on the variety of lights, bites, and sights of the Big Apple. We explored the culture of the city, while also indulging in the food, the theater, and the great city. The four-day excursion included multiple Broadway shows, such as “The Outsiders” and “Death Becomes Her.” We also participated in dancing workshops led by Broadway actors Thayne Jasperson from “Hamilton” and Cole Zieser from “The Outsiders.” On top of all of that, we visited the Museum of Broadway and explored behind the scenes of various performing arts centers like the Lincoln Center.
We also enjoyed local culinary experiences at Chelsea Market and Katz’s Delicatessen, where we had authentic pastrami. We ventured to Chinatown to try authentic Chinese food and celebrate the Lunar New Year. Finally, we visited the Tenement Museum and learned how people used to live back in the early 20th century. Overall, we got to experience New York from a different perspective than we ever imagined before.
