What Does Galloway think about the Holidays

Winter is full of a number of exciting holidays, seasonal activities, and cheer. Winter is loved for the nostalgia of childhood memories with family and the hundreds of beloved movies. I decided to ask numerous Galloway students about their seasonal preferences and memories.

Is there a seasonal winter drink that you love?

Ashaar Bakshi (‘24): “Pumpkin spice latte obviously from Starbucks”

Toby Reitman (‘24): “Definitely hot chocolate”

Rukariro Mawokomatanda (‘24): “I drink hot cocoa whenever I want, but the fall and winter weather gives me an excuse to have it even more.”

Natalie Spear (‘24): “I like apple cider.”

Carter Davidson (‘24): “I love sipping on a steamy, peppermint hot chocolate.”

Giancarlo Martinez-Saldana (‘24): “Yes, hot cocoa. I see it in movies a lot, and I watched Home Alone a lot as a kid.”

Jackson Armstrong (‘24): “Hot chocolate because it tastes good.”

Grace Stuart (‘24): “Warm, cinnamony apple cider with whipped cream because it has a good contrast between a nice bitterness and also nice sweetness.”

Do you have a favorite movie you want to watch?

Rukariro Mawokomatanda: “Oh, Disenchanted, I guess. And it’s kind of holiday related. I plan to watch Enchanted and then watch Disenchanted.”

Natalie Spear: “I like watching Elf because it puts me in the holiday spirit, reminds me of Christmas, and it’s funny.”

Carter Davidson: “I’m very excited to watch The Santa Claus this winter season because it’s a fun, holiday classic to watch with the whole family.”

Giancarlo Martinez-Saldana: “Yes, Home Alone. It’s absolutely amazing and beautiful.”

Jackson Armstrong: “Die Hard because it’s a great movie.”

Grace Stuart: “ Polar Express because there’s a nostalgic element to it that reminds me of elementary school holiday parties.”

What is your favorite winter activity?

Ashaar Bakshi: “Skiing, obviously”

Mr. Watson: “It’s warm inside, so I like playing pool and my second favorite is doing math problems.”

Toby Reitman: “I would say sledding”

Rukariro Mawokomatanda : “Definitely, even if there isn’t snow, I just want to look at the lights and drive around in the city listening to Christmas music and looking at all the decorations. I also have tons of Christmas decorations downloaded.”

Natalie Spear: “Building snowmen, and I like it because we can’t do it often in Georgia.”

Shaheen: “Waiting for summer”

Giancarlo Martinez-Saldana: “I like to either play video games or run outside in the cold.”

Jackson Armstrong: “Sitting in my room and playing video games with my friends.”

Grace Stuart: “Sitting by the fireplace”

Is there a holiday you’re celebrating this winter that you’re excited for and what are you most excited about doing this winter?

Ashaar Bakshi: “Thanksgiving because I have a big family feast with my family and friends, and we get around a firepit and eat good food

Toby Reitman: “I’m celebrating hannukah this winter and i’m excited to see my siblings come home from college.”

Rukariro Mawokomatanda : “Christmas, definitely. My family is religious, so we celebrated it. My brother is in boarding school, so I’m excited to reunite with him and see him.”

Natalie Spear: “Hanniukah and I get to spend a lot of time with my family and we do community service work together.”

Giancarlo Martinez-Saldana: “I’m excited for Christmas because it’s the answer, and everyone loves Christmas.”

Grace Stuart: “Spending time with family.”

Jackson Armstrong: “I’m excited to go on a cruise to the Bahamas this winter.”

Do you have a memorable moment in your childhood about the holidays?

Ashaar Bakshi: “It would definitely have to be opening presents.”

Toby Reitman: “During snowmageddon, I made a snowman”

Rukariro Mawokomatanda : “My grandfather and grandmother used to live in Baltimore, Maryland in a great church house. Every summer we would go there and spend time with them. I asked for a rabbit for Christmas, and my cousin got the Nintendo DS that he asked for. I didn’t get the rabbit, but it was a great Christmas to spend around my entire family. They don’t live at the house anymore, but I have great memories.”

Natalie Spear: “I would say going on a family vacation with my grandparents to celebrate the holidays and my birthday. It was fun to be with my family, and I like traveling.”

Giancarlo Martinez-Saldana: “Every time for Christmas since I could remember, I’d announce the presents. It’s more of a bonding experience because we would open them one at a time.”

Jackson Armstrong: “When we couldn't go on a cruise because I got strep throat and flu at the same time.”

Personally, I am most excited to watch Christmas movies with my family in the warmth of my home. Thanksgiving and Winter breaks are great opportunities to relax, catch up with family, and create even more lifelong memories!
