Nick Saban's Coronavirus Adventure
Wednesday morning, October 14, Tom Rinaldi, a reporter for ESPN, announced that the University of Alabama's Head Football Coach, Nick Saban, tested positive for COVID-19. Although he is the 6th coach to test positive, due to the ranking of his team and his reputation, more people took notice.
This was alarming for Alabama fans because of the big game against UGA the upcoming Saturday. If Saban was truly positive, he would not be able to coach the team, on the sidelines, or over the phone. After receiving the positive test, Saban returned to his home with no symptoms. Although you can have COVID while remaining asymptomatic, the SEC allows a 2nd PCR test to be conducted in order to confirm the case.
After receiving the negative result of the 2nd confirmation test, he gained the possibility to be back on the sidelines for Saturday's game. The SEC rules state that if he could have two other negative test results 24 hours apart before Saturday, his would-be declared a false positive and he would be back on the sidelines.
Saturday morning, it was announced that he had received his 3rd negative test and was cleared to coach the University of Alabama football team against the University of Georgia Bulldogs. After being down 20 to 24 at halftime, Saban must have said something in the locker room that got the Crimson Tide to win 41 to 24. This also allowed Saban to continue his streak of never losing to a head coach that was his former assistant coach.
