Why Dan Quinn Shouldn't Be Fired
From leading the team to the Super Bowl to a 7-9 season, Dan Quinn’s life as the Falcons coach has been a bumpy road. In the first season, he led the team to an 8-8 season; not a great record, but it’s to be expected in a coach's first season. In just his second year with the team, he led them to the Super Bowl, a feat that is rarely seen in professional sports, especially the NFL. In his third season, he took the team to the playoffs again, this time after a 10-6 season. That's when the problems started. From injuries, to players leaving, to coordinator mix-ups, there has been a lot of things going wrong with the organization, for none of which is Dan Quinn to blame.
Since around week 5 of this season, many people have been angry with the way the Falcons season has been going. When a team doesn’t play well, the first place fans tend to point fingers at the head coach. What people don’t realize is that Dan Quinn transformed this Falcons team from below average, to a Super Bowl team in two years. The things that have gone wrong are out of his control, like injuries to Calvin Ridley and other key players on the defensive side of the ball, While times might be tough right now, things should be getting better soon, with players on both the defensive line and secondary coming back from injury, not to mention a potential top 10 draft pick for next season.
Before coming to the Falcons, Dan Quinn took the Seahawks to two Super Bowls. It is clear that he is a capable coach who can take teams to great places, the issue is that he needs other things to come together. If the Falcons can land some players for their offensive line and some defensive stars, things could come together for this Falcons team. Yes, this season has been a struggle, but it’s not time to give up on Dan Quinn just yet.
