A Guide To Lululemon: What's Worth the Cash?

Like most girls my age, I love my Lululemon clothes. Maybe it’s the quality of the fabric, maybe it’s the styles, or maybe subconsciously, I like the clout of the small silver logo. However, the brand is extraordinarily expensive. After a few years of shopping the store (usually through windows), I feel like I have a fair understanding of what products are worth. Here is my guide to Lululemon:

1. The Leggings

The first time I ever shopped at Lululemon, three years ago, the saleswoman pulled me in with the fantasy of what she referred to as “Butter Leggings.” At first, I was hesitant, but once I had them on, I completely understood. The way the fabric slides onto your legs makes it feel as though you are literally sliding into a tub of butter. Ever since, I’ve been obsessed with these leggings and have worn them millions of times.

This type of leggings she handed me are technically called the Align Pant and are priced at a whopping $98. This is absurd for a pair of pants, no doubt. Let me tell you though, these leggings are exceptional. If you can invest in anything at Lulu, I would highly suggest these.

The other leggings offered at Lululemon are overpriced and overrated, in my opinion. While the Align Pant is made of a soft lightweight fabric, the Speed Up Tight, another popular style, is made of dry fit material. It simply does not have the same effect and, for $100, I personally only want the best leggings out there. For leggings other than the Align Pant, I’ve found that options at Target and Aerie are just as good, if not better and much cheaper.

2. The Tanks

Lululemon also offers a wide range of tops, including tank tops, hoodies, short sleeves, and more.

My personal favorites are the tank tops. I’ve purchased the Racerback tank as well as the Breeze By Muscle tank,  both priced at around $50. I love the quality of these tops, and they’ve both held up very nicely for a couple of years now. However, nothing is incredible about the style or material that you could find at another store for substantially less. I have purchased Nike or even Target athletic tank tops that I like just as much.

3. The Tops

On the other hand, the popular short sleeve and long sleeve shirts are absolutely a blessing to this earth. Made of a fabric that completely eliminates any bodily odor, these items are perfect for working out. Although the price is a bit steep (about $70 for short sleeves and $100 for long sleeves), I think that, if it is in your price range, these are worth it. You seriously cannot buy anything like these anywhere else.

4. The Shorts

The shorts at Lululemon are tough. The most popular model, the Speed Up short, is offered in a variety of colors are highly desired. Many people, including myself, feel like the shorts size numbers are unproportionate with what the actual size should be. Lots of people who do not have petite waists often go up a size in these shorts because they tend to give a tight and unflattering effect.

At a steep price point of $60 a pair, these shorts are not an easy investment for most people. Are they worth it? Maybe. Can you find anything like it anywhere else? Definitely.

Overall rating: 6/10

Overall, Lululemon is a great brand full of comfortable and sustainable activewear. However, most, if not all, of their products, are easy to find for a lower price point at other stores. The price is tough to come by, for sure, but if you can afford it, I encourage you to walk into your local store and let the salespeople pull you into their expensive universe.
