Heartwarming Grandmother and Teen’s Thanksgiving Tradition Continues

In 2016, grandmother Wanda Dench sent a text out to a phone number she thought belonged to her grandson inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner. However, she had the number wrong, and the text actually went to teenager Jamal Hinton, who at the time was a senior in high school.

Jamal was honest and cleared up the confusion for her but asked her if he could come anyway. Dench graciously welcomed him saying, “that’s what grandmas do… feed everyone.” Hinton joined the family for Thnksgiving in 2016, but that is not the end of their story.

In 2017, Hinton had dinner with the family again and has been getting attention on multimedia platforms. Dench even called Jamal her “adopted grandson,” explaining that he was invited every year. Once again, Hinton joined Wrench and her family this past Thanksgiving and posted about it on Twitter.

Hinton informed the media that the Dench family sends him presents around Christmas and has remained in touch through his high school graduation and beyond. Touching instances like this is what the holiday season is all about. These two do an amazing job at embodying the generous spirit of the season.
