Summit Coffee Review

Summit Coffee is a TikTok-viral coffee brand famous for their birthday cake lattes. Based in North Carolina, they have over 20 locations in the southeast, including Georgia and South Carolina. They roast and distribute their products globally.

I visited the Summit Coffee at Emory Village, and ordered an iced birthday cake matcha latte with oatmilk and a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. Although I am not an extensive matcha-lover, as I typically enjoy them with lots of oatmilk and sugar-filled syrups, I think I can tell a high-quality matcha powder from a low-quality one.

Ceremonial grade matcha is normally more expensive, and has a deeper, more vibrant green color with a grassy, earthy flavor. Lower-quality matcha powders are cheaper, and have a dull yellow-brown color and a less concentrated flavor, making it taste bitter. I have found the main difference in matcha powders is the texture, with higher quality matcha being more smooth and lower quality being more grainy.

The matcha I got from Summit Coffee was a vibrant green color, a good tell-tale sign of a high quality matcha powder. It had birthday cake-flavored cold foam on top, and a normal amount of ice. Flavorwise, it was definitely sweet, but didn’t overpower the smooth taste of the matcha. Some sips were a little too sweet, but still very good.

My second item, the sausage, egg and cheese biscuit, was a large portion, making it very filling. There was nothing special about it. The biscuit part was very buttery and chewy, which I liked. However, the cheese on it was American. That’s not an issue if you like American cheese, but I felt the artificial flavor brought down the quality of the biscuit.

The store itself was very cute and well-decorated, with enough seating and a cohesive and consistent color scheme. It really improved the atmosphere and added to the overall appeal of the shop, and is one of the reasons why it became famous on TikTok.

Overall, I would recommend Summit Coffee if you are looking for a cute coffee shop to visit with a friend or as a study place. The lattes tend to be on the sweeter side, which is something to heed, depending on your preferences. Although I only tried one item, the food would be a pass for me; I would not order the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit again. Overall, I give Summit Coffee a 7.5/10.
