Gone but Never Forgotten: Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere, 36, died on Aug. 16, 2026 in her home in Greenville, South Carolina. She was found unresponsive after her on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson gave her Narcan. An autopsy was completed the next day, and there were no signs of possible trauma that could have contributed to her death. As of right now, her death is ruled as an overdose. 

Known as the epitome of childhood acting, Panettiere got her start in entertainment through commercials and soap operas like Remember the Titans, Racing Stripes,Bring It On: All or Nothing, and Ice Princess. She is also well known for her role in the hit television series Heroes where she plays Claire Bennet, a cheerleader with regenerative superpowers. Another is my personal favorite, Nashville, where she plays the rising country star, Juliette Barnes. 

Despite her fame and fortune, Panettiere battled demons throughout her life. In 2018 and after experiencing severe postpartum depression, she gave up custody of her daughter Kaya to her ex-partner Wladimir Klitschko, who is now living in Ukraine. A few years after that, her younger brother Jansen Panettiere died in 2023 at the age of 28 due to an enlarged heart condition. She was also estranged from her mom, who according to Panetierre, took advantage of her money and overworked her from a young age.

Overall, Panettiere was known for her charismatic personality on and off the screen, whether from playing a villain in Nashville, a hero in Racing Stripes or her partnership with Neutrogena. She was loved by every person she worked with, and will always be remembered for her contributions to the acting world and her brutal honesty surrounding mental health struggles. While she is gone way too soon, she is far from forgotten.
