THEE Drue Drinnon: Galloway Basketball Coach

Drue Drinnon is a 6 foot guard out of Smyrna, Georgia. Drue played at Pebblebrook High School alongside NBA star Collin Sexton and spent his senior year at the University School of Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He had many accomplishments, like being named First Team All-State in his freshman and sophomore years. At Pebblebrook, he achieved many milestones like playoff runs all the way to the Elite Eight. He was able to lead his team there while averaging 25 points per game in his freshman and sophomore seasons. As the lead guard, he had a number of assists and built a reputation as a hardnose playmaker.

Drinnon became nationally known and was rated as a 4-star prospect by ESPN by his senior year. Schools like Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Virginia Tech, VCU, Kansas State, and Charlotte all showed interest in him. Ultimately, Drue went to college and played basketball at the University of New Mexico and eventually transferred to Texas State. He played 27 games and made 8 starts in his freshman year. In his freshman year, he had many highlights like hitting his career-high of 13 points against New Mexico State and 12 assists versus University of the Southwest. He was able to do this because of his quick ball handling, play-making, court vision, shooting, and aggressive defense. Overall, Drue had an exceptional high school and college career and made a name for himself nationally.

Pebblebrook star Drue Drinnon made an appearance as a coach at the Galloway School in the 2025-26 season. In Drue’s first year at Galloway, he was the head coach of the JV basketball team and assistant coach for the Varsity team. He showed his growth and leadership all throughout the season as he was able to pour his skills into his young players on the court by running workout sessions outside of or after team practices. Drue was able to help many of his players improve throughout the season by showing them new moves and strategies to get to the rim and score, make plays, and defend. Galloway student Stephen Kotz is a prime example of someone who benefitted from Drue’s workout sessions. His confidence increased significantly towards the end of the season because of the extra work he put in with Coach Drue. He went from most of the time shooting threes, to driving to the basket to draw fouls and score. He even switched roles on the basketball court from being a shooting guard to being the general leader on the floor (point guard). Coach Drue has helped better the Galloway basketball program, and has become a role model and a brotherly figure for many of the boys to look up to. We are looking forward to next season.
