Impact of Fantasy Football on Galloway
As the football season is beginning, the fantasy football season is starting to heat up. Fantasy football is normally a league of 8 or more people who pick players from all around the league. Those players score points every time they get the ball or score a touchdown. People can add or drop players depending on how well they are doing during the year. Most people who do fantasy enjoy the competitiveness and the playful rivalries that they have with their friends. Normally, there is a prize like money, bragging rights, or the loser has to do a punishment picked by the winner or by the league. These factors also make the league more competitive and can have people talking about football constantly.
Connor Biglari and Dylan Homer discuss how competitive their league is and how much they talk about it. Both of them looked at each other for a second and laughed. They then said that they probably talk about it 5 hours a day, during lunch, break, and after school. After hearing their stories, their league seems to be a bit addictive for some members. Another student in their league, Efe Colakoglu, whose name was talked about a decent amount, for preparing the most before the draft. He did the most amount of mock drafts, which is a procedure where a participant practices picking in their order. Although he did the most mock drafts, Connor says his team still “sucks”. According to Connor and Dylan, fantasy football brings their friend group close together and gives them something to talk about.

Another grade that does a fantasy football league is the 9th grade. Their league isn’t as competitive as the seniors, but there is still a punishment for being last in the league. Their league isn’t exclusively Galloway students, and a lot of the kids who participate are kids who left Galloway last year. Even though the league doesn’t consist of people screaming at each other during lunch, break, or whenever they are together. It is still competitive enough for people to set their lineups each week and to pick up players from the waiver wire.

Fantasy football can bring people together and give them more discussions or things to converse about. It is a fun way for people to bond together. However, it can form rivalries within the friend groups, which can make the league more interesting but also highly competitive.
