Dirty Soda: A Review

Could dirty soda be better than coffee? Dirty soda has skyrocketed in popularity since 2024. Most think it is because of the show Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Because of their religion, Mormons are not allowed to drink coffee. Under the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints coffee is prohibited under the Word of Wisdom. Caffeinated soda is not prohibited because it is not considered a hot drink. Therefore, most individuals turn to dirty soda.

What even is dirty soda? It is a fun, delicious, and new way to enjoy sodas and get some caffeine intake. A dirty soda is not just a specific recipe; it's a versatile blend. There are a plethora of dirty sodas that can be made. Many people mix soda with french vanilla sweetener, or even mix with raspberry pure.

I decided to try this infamous dirty soda. One of the recipes I picked included one can of Diet Coke (7.5 ounces), a splash of coconut cream sweetener, and some lime. The taste of this mixture was very… “coconutty”. It was extremely refreshing, and the bit of lime balanced the coconut taste out with a zesty tang.

The second recipe I tried is a 7.5 ounce can of Dr. Pepper, a splash of french vanilla sweetener, and yet again a splash of coconut creamer. Before trying this drink, I expected a more coconut taste, thinking it would overpower the vanilla. To my surprise, the vanilla took over the coconut flavor… leaving it tasting like just Dr. Pepper with a bit of sweetness. This issue could have been a mistake on my end as I did “eye-ball” my measurements with both the vanilla and coconut. While I personally enjoyed the vanilla flavor, I could see where some would have liked it even more if you were able to taste both.

After trying both recipes, I now see the excitement with the dirty sodas. It is fun, customizable, and has so many options.
