Get to know your new president and vice president!

Galloway just had an exciting race for president and vice president that had the whole school talking. The candidates for president were Morghan Belt, Natalie Spear, and Jackson Armstrong, and the vice president candidates were Logan Smith and Grace Stuart. All the candidates put in valiant efforts, including numerous posters around school and detailed speeches. In the end, Morghan Belt and Logan Smith were ultimately elected to be our President and Vice President for the 2023-2024 school year. In recognition of this, we interviewed both candidates to learn more about them.

LOGAN SMITH

What made you want to be president/vice president?

“It was a decision between running for vice president and president, and I was definitely willing to work with anyone on student association, regardless of the relationship. They’re all great and lovely members. Morghan, Jackson, and Natalie all decided to run for president, so I decided that I would rather work with them as vice president instead of competing with them. I want to congratulate Morghan, and I’m excited to work with her!”

How long have you been on student association?

“I have been in student association since freshman year, so this will be my fourth year.”

What have you done so far in student association?

“So far, Natalie and I took over to improve Asher Pollack’s (the previous event and sport announcer) announcements. We added an events calendar, and my main role was announcing and advertising sports events and games. I think we did well in announcing accomplishments, like games won. I also participated in the prom committee this year and helped with coordinating.”

What do you plan to do during your vice presidency?

“I think we can improve our communication with students to have a better events calendar. Each year, senior athletes are given banners, but there isn’t really recognition for seniors who have been in theater or dance for four years. Same with debate and mock trial. I also want to improve grade wide communication rather than making a lot of the decisions for ourselves. There needs to be more forms and communication with the grades. In addition, I want to make sure everyone is on their grade GroupMe to make sure they are receiving all of the announcements. Another thing is that we want to send out forms for senior mural, senior prank, and advisory hype people.”

What are you most excited about for next year?

“I am most excited for our senior specific events, like senior sunrise where all seniors go and watch the sunrise on the last day of school. I also look forward to wearing white at the beginning of the year, I will start crying for sure. We have been seeing the people before us do it and we are finally doing all of these senior traditions so it’s an emotional time.”

Do you have any ideas about next year that you didn’t share on the panel/speeches?

“I wanted to send out more forms to see what spirit days we should do and what advisory challenges people want to see.”

What activities have you done at Galloway or outside of Galloway?

“I have been on the swim team for three years, and I did cross-country my freshman year. Outside of school, I do lifeguarding and am a Boy Scout (currently working on my Eagle scout project). At Galloway, I am always helping with admissions and tours, like I hosted some of the Danish students who visited, I am co-president of Book Club, and I go to Volleyball Club and Poetry Club.”

MORGHAN BELT

What made you want to be president/vice president?

“I have been at Galloway for seven years, so I’ve seen it change over time. The main motivation was that I wanted to be a bigger part of the community since I was already in clubs and creating clubs. I also wanted to influence the Galloway community”

How long have you been in the student association?

“I have been on student association for three years so far.”

What have you done so far in student association?

“I proposed a talent show as well as worked very hard on HOCO (Homecoming) with Margaret and Peyton to create the ‘vision of homecoming.’”

What do you plan to do during your presidency?

“I wanna have more minority inclusion, and I want people to understand why we get these Jewish holidays off. I also want more people to be involved in advisory challenges because I feel like there’s only a few people involved in them right now.”

What are you most excited about for next year?

“I’m really excited for volleyball and excursion. I’m also excited for the senior trip.”

Do you have any ideas about next year that you didn’t share on the panel/speeches?

“Teacher lip sync battle, e-sports team, valorant team, and making galloway games more high school students oriented”

What activities have you done at Galloway (sports, theater)

“Three seasons of volleyball, theater (I was involved in the musical and the play), currently in chorus, and I will be doing advanced music ensemble next year.”

Both candidates are extremely involved in the community and are passionate about their new responsibilities. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for the upcoming school year alongside the rest of Student Association!
