Galloway Teams Update: 12/20-1/8
With School finally back in session, we pick back up into the sports seasons as well. Games continued throughout the break, 12/20-1/8.
The Debate Team attended the 44th MBA Southern Bell Classic Invitational. Seniors, Margaret Edmonds and Diya Guandapali, both were one round away from earning a bid to the Tournament of Champions! Congratulations to both of these astounding seniors.
The Varsity Boys Basketball Team played a total of three games over the break. The boys won all three games with great performances from all the players. The boys started the new year hot, going 2-0 in January. The first game of the New Year, the boys played against Landmark Christian. The game went really well for the Scots with the boys pulling away for a 52-46 win on the road. With 19 points, Ryan Levin (‘25), capped off a great team display. In the Second matchup of 2023, the boys played against Christo Rey and won 54-51. This time it was Aden Aponte’s (‘26) time to shine, finishing with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The boys are now 11-6!
The Varsity Girls Basketball Team played a total of five games since school got out. The girls finished their stretch 4-1 over break. Filled with comebacks and total domination, the girls displayed grit once again. To start the New Year, the girls matched off against Landmark Christian. Winning big, 58-45, led by Tianna Thompson (‘24) and Kyla Cain’s (‘23) combined 31 points, the girls started the year off hot. Their second game of the year was a much closer game. The girls pulled through with a 3 point win, 37-34. The Thompson Sisters combined for 20 points, as well as Kyla Cain’s 13 points and 6 rebounds, to lead to a win. This performance pushed Kyla to her 1000th career point! Congratulations Kyla! For the end of the first week stretch of 2023, the girls played Riverwood. They destroyed Riverwood’s hopes from the tip off, going on a 26-6 run in the first half. The game reflected this insane show of skill with the girls winning 50-26 in a blowout victory. The team was pushed to success by Tianna, Danaya Stokes (‘25) and Kailyn Fields (‘23), who combined for 38 points! The girls are now 16-3.
The Galloway Swim Team competed in one meet this break. The Men’s 200 Free Relay Team placed second overall and advanced to state. Janson Danforth (‘25) and Dylan Reiser (‘25) both posted state qualifying times in their respective times.
