Why I Love Being a Part of The Tennis Team
As a Freshman coming to a new school, there were lots of aspects I was nervous about. For 5 years, I've been playing tennis, and I was looking forward to joining the school team. At first, I was really scared of joining the team because I feared I wouldn’t have any friends or I wouldn’t fit in. Through the season though, I learned that I was completely wrong and was welcomed with open arms from not only the players, but also the parents. After being a part of the Galloway Tennis Team for two years, I can honestly recommend it for any high school student. Not only are the practices fun, but also they gave me the chance to meet everyone on the team and form relationships with everyone throughout the season. Some of my closest friends are from Galloway’s tennis team, which allowed me to expand my circle of friends to other grades. Another part of the team that I did not expect as a freshman was the community aspect. At every game, we would have lots of people cheering us on, and supporting us at the matches. The team parents were so helpful, and provided great advice and encouragement, along with snacks and other refreshments at every game. The team also created an instagram account that allows us to share funny pictures and memorable moments from games and practices.
In addition to these community building activities, the bus rides and car rides to many matches and tournaments are one of the best bonding experiences. We have the chance to have great conversations with teammates, but also seek helpful advice from everyone. The best part of the tennis team, however, is the team celebratory dinner at the end of the season. We discuss great memories from the season, and also discuss where each player has improved and shined throughout the season. All of these experiences with the team is why I look forward to the next tennis season, and hope to see you on the team!
