Whoopi Goldberg Suspended from The View

Whoopi Goldberg was suspended on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2022, for comments she made about the Holocaust on the show, The View. During a conversation about a school in Tennessee that banned the graphic novel, Maus by Art Spiegelman, a book about the Holocaust, for containing nudity and bad language, Whoopi Goldberg made comments about her opinion of the origin of the Holocaust. The cast was talking about a Florida bill that stops conversation about race, LGBTQ+ rights, and anything that might make children uncomfortable in schools. During the race discussion, Goldberg said, “The Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

Goldberg’s comments on the issue sparked outrage with people in the Jewish community. Some following the issue asked for Goldberg to be fired for her comments. She continued to try and defend her comments later that day on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert causing more outrage from people who watched it when she said that she “thinks of race as something she can see”

The next day Goldberg apologized on the show saying she “stands corrected.” She added that she gets why she caused so much outrage and that she’s grateful that she gets to learn about the issue. She also spoke about how she was recently educated on how the Holocaust was about both race and inhumanity because the Nazis found the Jewish people to be a lesser race.
