My Favorite Movies to Get Me in the Halloween Spirit

Halloween is right around the corner, and there are countless movies that are perfect to watch with your friends and family in preparation for the holiday season. Here are a few great, classic options of movies that have been very popular over the past few years:

Monsters Inc.

Monsters Inc. is a Disney and Pixar movie released in 2001 that features iconic characters, such as Mike Wazowski, Sulley, and Boo. Monsters Incorporation is the name of a “scare factory,” where numerous monsters work to scare kids to power their factory. Boo is the name of a child who ends up escaping her bedroom and entering the monsters’ world. The movie follows monsters Sulley and Mike attempting to safely return Boo home without endangering the world or getting in trouble with the monsters in charge of the factory. The movie is perfect to watch together as a family, and while it is not technically a Halloween movie, it does have monsters and is entertaining. You can watch it on Disney Plus.

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus was made in 1993. The movie is amusing, scary, and features fun, fanatical topics such as music and witches. The movie features a boy named Max, his sister, and a girl from school attempting to run away from three witches after Max opened a mysterious book and woke up the witches from a deep sleep. The three and their cat, Salem, race to get rid of the witches before they hurt anybody. This movie has important themes such as standing by and protecting your family as well as attempting to fix your mistakes. This movie is a Halloween essential that everybody should watch at least once. You can watch it on Disney Plus.

Halloweentown

Halloweentown is the first of a series of Halloweentown movies beginning in 1998. This is another classic Halloween move and is perfect to watch with your entire family. It originally premiered on Disney Channel and features actresses like Kimberly J. Brown and Debbie Reynolds. The story follows a girl named Marnie and her siblings. Marnie learns that she is a witch when she turns 13, then she visits her grandmother in Halloweentown, where witches, goblins, ghosts, werewolves, and more live in peace. However, Marnie soon finds out that she must defeat other supernatural beings that want to take over the world that humans live in, and the movie follows her and her family in this clash against them. You can watch it on Disney Plus.

Corpse Bride

Corpse Bride is a little more recent than some of the other movies on this list as it was made in 2005. The main characters are played by Johnny Depp and Emily Watson, and the movie is directed by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson. In the movie Corpse Bride, a man meets a woman, a corpse bride, who was supposed to marry someone but mysteriously died right after marrying him. The main character of the movie, Victor’s, family arranged for him to marry Victoria, but he wants to marry the corpse bride as she is in love with Victor and mistakenly thought Victor read his vows to her. The movie has shocking plot twists, fun music, and a happy ending. It is a great movie for Halloween and has everything: fantasy, romance, drama, and more. You can watch it on HBO Max.

There are so many incredible Halloween movies that are perfect for the season and this weekend, but these four are ideas of classic movies that you can watch at home this fall. Happy Halloween!
