5 Ben and Jerry's Flavors You Have to Try

Ice cream may be the most universal dessert ever. Dozens of cultures have their take on this sweet, frozen dessert, like Indian kulfi, Italian gelato, and Iranian faloodeh. It can be sold in a store, out of a machine, or from some guy in a truck, but my favorite way to get ice cream is buying a pint of Ben and Jerry’s at Kroger. There is something about this particular brand that draws me towards its section of the freezer aisle every time that I go to the store. It could be the clever names, or the bright colors, or maybe even a subconscious love from the company’s outspoken political stances. Whatever it may be, there is something special about this brand that makes me hold it so close to my heart, and you should as well. I’ve listed below my top 5 flavors that everyone must try at some point in their life.

5. Neapolitan Dynamite

One of the most significant letdowns of my life was when Neapolitan Dynamite got discontinued. This flavor took everything good about Neapolitan ice cream and made it better. It combined two of the most popular flavors, Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Fudge Brownie, into one super mashup pint that exudes richness. It is still possible to create this flavor by buying the two pints that it consists of and combining them, which may seem like a lot of work, but it is 100% worth it.

4. Uncanny Cashew

Unfortunately, Uncanny Cashew was discontinued as well, but I feel incredibly strongly that it is the most underrated ice cream flavor ever. I hate it when people put nuts in the dessert because it feels a little bit like a personal attack. It’s almost as if they’re trying to ruin the one thing that no one should have to worry about being ruined. This flavor is the single exception to my opinion of nuts in dessert because it was done so incredibly well. The caramel-covered cashews tasted like little drops of heaven sprinkled into a simple base of caramel and sweet cream ice cream, making a fairly perfect pint.

3. Phish Food

Every once in a while I will buy an entire pint of Phish Food and eat the entire thing in one night. This flavor is so excellent because the marshmallow and caramel swirls make the texture perfectly soft no matter how long it is sitting in your freezer. The fudge fish adds the perfect amount of bitterness to this otherwise sweet pint, leveling out the richness of the chocolate ice cream base. Overall, this flavor is one of the best combinations of different textures and sweetness levels that Ben and Jerry’s has ever created

2. Half Baked

Half Baked is such a homey and comforting pint that deserves to be on everyone's list. It takes all of the good feelings that come from eating brownie batter and cookie dough and transforms them into ice cream form. Since the base is half chocolate and half vanilla, there's a perfect mix of richness and sweetness that thrives in its simplicity. While this is not a fancy or extravagant flavor with a million mix-ins, Half Bakes still manages to be one of the most popular Ben and Jerry’s flavors.

1. Milk and Cookies

At the very top of my list is Milk and Cookies. When I was little, my favorite flavor was cookies and cream, so this pint feels like the more adult, grown-up version of my childhood classic. The chocolate and chocolate chip cookie swirls are always perfectly distributed so that every single bite is just as good as the last. I have eaten an entire pint of this flavor in a single sitting far more times than I would care to admit just in this past year. There is something about the beauty of the cookie swirl that makes this flavor absolutely irresistible to me in a genuinely unhealthy way. Overall, this is not only the best Ben and Jerry’s flavor ever, but the best flavor out of every ice cream brand.
