The Highs and Lows of the 2021 Grammy's Runway
Many people watch the Grammys for the live performances or the award show itself. And while I do appreciate that aspect of the Grammys, my undeniably favorite part is the runway show. I adore watching the stars showing off their runway looks; idolizing someone and laughing at others. Come along with me as I praise the best outfits from the 2021 Grammy’s runway row, and shaming some of the worst.
Doja Cat
This is bad. I hate to say it, but this is truly a terrible piece of clothing. From the awkward proportions to the distasteful feather boa skirt, this outfit lacks any glimpse of chic or high fashion. I cannot fathom how one could look at this dress and decide it was by any means a stylistic masterpiece. But still, Doja Cat is able to own this look and be sexy, all while dressing like a dead peacock. I think it is safe to say we should keep the feather wearing to Harry.
Harry Styles
Speak of the devil, or rather the angel. Harry Styles, as always, entered the runway looking flawless. It is debatable whether my positive opinion is based on his outfit or my obsession with him, but I think it would be hard for him to look bad. As soon as he hit the runway, I immediately adored his “Clueless'' chic vibe and loved the spice of the feather boa. While this outfit was sweet, his all black leather performance was show stopping—literally. He looked amazing, and I will leave it at that.
Noah Cyrus
Ever since Cyrus walked on the runway, I have been debating about my thoughts on this outfit. Does she look like a bleached elephant or an elegant chic futuristic queen? I have concluded that it is a little bit of both. Does she look bizarre and a little bit like a water soaked tampon? Yes. But, she also owns this outfit and has everyone paying attention to her. She is clearly feeling herself (as she should), and I praise her boldness. Both as a concept and physically, Noah took up lots of space on the red carpet and in terms of Grammys fashion, that is success. Still, she is not quite as decked out as her sister, Miley Cyrus, has been a few times.
Bad Bunny
WOW. This chic, crisp, and clean look worn by Latino singer Bad Bunny blew everyone away. I absolutely adore this fit from head to toe; from the adorable bunny ears, to the funky sunglasses, to the slick black suit, and even the pop of fun the sunflower. This runway look is the epitome of Avant-garde meets class. I love how this look is so simple, yet encapsulating and exciting at the same time. This is the perfect look to win your first ever Grammy in!
Phoebe Bridgers
While I can understand and admire the glamor goth look Bridges was looking for, this indie rock singers’ runway look missed the mark. The problem with this outfit is not the execution, but rather the concept; who thought it was a good idea to wear a decked out skeleton dress to one of the most elite celebrity events of the year. For a Halloween costume, this is a total yes, but for the Grammys, not so much. All this to say, I must applaud one aspect of this outfit, it is definitely memorable. Phoebe Bridgers left the show with everyone thinking about her skeleton gown.
Dua Lipa
Winner of this year's Best Pop Vocal Album, Dua Lipa, arrived at the Runway looking absolutely fabulous. I adore every inch of this luxurious and fun look. This dress has the perfect combination of sexy and chic. As someone who is a complete sucker for glimmer, shine, and sparkles, I would do anything to own that dress. The butterfly detailing at the top is somehow elegant and subtle while still being exciting and intriguing. Basically, this dress is a perfect balanced runway look and Dua Lipa could not have looked more beautiful.
Chika
2014 tumblr meets 2017 Nike apparel is not a good look, especially for one of the most high-end celebrity events of the year. Chika’s outfit was painfully cheesy, and while I do commend the matching mask, this look had no wow factor. The light mint mixed with the pastel pink and purple made for an immature look, and the Nike logos made it seem like sportswear. Sorry, Chika, but I think you should stay far away from the fashion industry.
Billie Eilish
While this look does not match my personal style aspirations, Billie looks objectively fierce and incredible. From the matching mask, to the matching bucket hat, and even the matching nails, Billie Ellish took this somewhat chaotic pattern and made it a sleek and cohesive look. Her outfit is innovative, fresh, and very Billie. This decked-out, one-of-a-kind Gucci pants suit had Billie Ellish’s name written all over it: comfort, coverage, funk, practicality, and most importantly, mesmerizing accessories. This look is yet another win for Billie Eilish.
