Worst Songs of 2021
5. “Fancy Like” - Walker Hayes
While I’ll admit, I’ve listened to this song as a guilty pleasure numerous times, it is just simply not good. It’s overproduced, drenched with autotune and feels like an ingenuine push by a record label. The song is catchy, but all two minutes and forty four seconds of the song feel forced. The song is not terrific, but it’s a masterpiece compared to some of the others on this list. The country-pop crossover is so 2015. We need something else, please.
4. “Girls Like Girls” - Drake ft. Lil Baby
This song is wrong for so many reasons and was a serious contender for Worst Song of the Year. The lyrics are trashy and immature. Basically, the entire song is Drake talking about vulgar fetishes he has with LGBTQ+ women. I’m not averse to sexually inappropriate music but this song is gross for so many reasons. Drake deserves to be cancelled for making me sit through that awful song. Maybe that’s why his album flopped.
3. “I’d Rather Die” - Tramp Stamps
Tiktok punk sensations The Tramp Stamps debuted this past year and quickly gained notoriety across social media. One of their first singles, “I’d Rather Die,” showed exactly who they are as artists: Not artists at all. The song was so terrible that it reminded me of a poorly made parody. The meaningless lyrics and vanilla instrumental are such an embarrassingly desperate grasp for attention and are unlistenable. I’ll enjoy watching this group fall into irrelevance because they’re talentless and annoying.
2. “Anyone” - Justin Bieber
This is a great song…if you’re trying to take a nap. I don’t have much to say about this song since there isn’t much to talk about. It’s boring and unoriginal. The song is another example of Justin Bieber clinging to relevance by recycling the same type of music he’s been making for a decade now. Justin is stale and refuses to incorporate new sounds into his music. Justin, please retire, we’re tired.
1. “Way 2 Sexy” - Drake ft. Future and Young Thug
Congratulations, Drake! You’ve now been mentioned twice in a list of worst songs of the year! Drake isn’t notorious for making terrible music, but Certified Lover Boy was rushed and unlistenable. This song takes the cake as not only the worst song on the album, but the worst song of the year! The unnecessary features, Future and Young Thug were clearly a dive for chart success, making the song even more unbearable. This song sounds like something I would hear on a 13 year old boy’s Soundcloud. The annoying hook and shameless attempt to make the song viral on TikTok culminate to this song being the worst of the year. Do better Drake, this clearly isn’t working.
