Hello, it's Adele
When you hear the name “Adele,” many things come to mind. Most people will immediately associate this name with gorgeous vocals and enticing pop ballads. Adele has well documented her romantic trials and tribulations through her many projects as she has grown into an internationally celebrated musician who has been writing and singing for over a decade. Adele, and her legacy, have touched the souls of millions of fans. This is her story.
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in North London and lived in various low-income areas throughout her childhood. Despite her economic trouble, she was able to attend a government-funded private school for the arts, where she developed a passion for music, specifically soul music. She was specifically influenced by Etta James, a blues singer who’s predominantly known for her groundbreaking music in the 1960s. Adkins began writing songs as a teenager and posted some of her personal demons on the popular social platform, MySpace. Shortly after graduating high school, she was recognized by a record label and offered a deal. In 2008, with assistance from her new record company, Adele released her first album, 19, named after her age while recording most of the tracks. The album instantly achieved wild success in Britain but began breaking records in America after a stunning Saturday Night Live performance. The album showcased Adkins’ soulful vocals and writing talents. Navigating different themes of teenage heartbreak, the album delivered a new aspect to the music landscape.
Adele’s sophomore album, 21, is the staple of her discography. The project delivered numerous iconic hits, such as “Someone Like You” and “Rolling in the Deep.” This project solidified Adele’s place as a permanent vocal powerhouse in the music industry. The album deeply explored themes of jazz, R&B, and soul while incorporating an infectious pop sound.
Adele’s third album, 25, continued to break industry records. While the album didn’t necessarily showcase Adele’s musical versatility, her vocal power defined the record. The lead single “Hello” was a smash hit that has amassed nearly three billion views on YouTube. During this timeframe, Adele also claimed an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 2013 Academy Awards.
In 2021, Adele divorced her husband of five years, Simon Konecki. While the divorce shattered the hearts of many Adele fans, it also instilled hope of a soulful, gut-wrenching heartbreak album. Adele came through on that promise. In late 2021, Adele announced her third album 30. The project explored themes of heartbreak, recovery, independence, and love. The album was an immediate success and received undying praise from critics.
Adele, now 33 years old, has established herself as a veteran in music. Her art is appreciated worldwide as Adele is regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of our time. Adele’s soulful voice and somber ballads have solidified her as an icon. Her impact as an artist is almost unmatched and she, with almost utmost certainty, will go down as one of the most accomplished, influential artists of all time.
