What Is Love? (Baby, Don't Hurt Me)
It’s Valentine's Day and whether you're single or not, love is always in the back of our minds. Maybe some don’t think about it as often as others, but the feeling is always there. It’s sung about in songs and talked about in movies. Some would say love is two people growing together over time and it takes commitment and trust. Personally, I hate Valentine’s Day. I just don’t understand the meaning of it, but I’m not opposed to the idea of love. I was curious to know if my friends felt the same way as I do.
What is love to you? (Answered by Galloway students)
“Love is caring about someone else more than you care about yourself.”
“Love is receiving a free King of Pops on a hot day.”
“Being ok to spend an endless amount of time with someone.”
“Having someone know you better than you know yourself.”
“Love is that you lowkey wouldn't mind spending the rest of your life with them.”
“I think love is not a thing but a feeling. It's somewhat wrong to use a word within its definition, but that is the only way to explain it. I naturally know when I love a person or a thing, some clearly more than others. However, I do think everyone has a different definition of love, and therefore the universal term ‘love’ is just an average of all these different perspectives.”
“Love is a strong attraction towards one person or an object and Valentine's Day is all about that.”
“When you care about somebody so much that you'd feel like you’d do anything for them.”
Love is such a commonly used word to describe so many things and its meaning may differ from person to person. One thing that is for sure is when you love someone, you should let it show. According to a slightly altered quote from American Tibetan Buddhist Pema Chödrön, it’s like "They are the sky, everything else is just weather."
