Wear Pink for Wendy: A Pink-Out in Remembrance of Arkansas State's Coach's Wife
Many people suffer tough losses of loved ones throughout their lives. Blake Anderson, the coach of Arkansas State, recently lost his beloved wife, Wendy Anderson, on August 19 due to breast cancer. A week later his team played their opening game against Southern Methodist University and lost 30-37.
Their third game of the season was against the University of Georgia, the 3rd ranked team in the Nation. The Arkansas Red Wolves knew they were going to have to put up a strong fight against the Bulldogs, Unfortunately, they did not get any points on the board and lost 0-55, but the score and the plays were not the traditional reason fans watched the game on Saturday. The bulldog fans wore all pink, instead of their classic red and black, in support of Coach Anderson and in remembrance of his wife. Typically when you look out in the stands at a game in the front row there are students who go all out. They paint themselves completely in red with “Go Dawgs” spelled out on their backs. For this game, they traded red for pink and spelled “Remember Wendy,” so everyone would be continuously reminded of Anderson's strength in continuing to coach after his recent loss. The Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer charity was the reason behind this sea of pink. They were already planning on doing an event like this later in the year but moved up the date for Coach Anderson. Upon seeing the stands covered in pink, Coach Anderson said: "This is what good sportsmanship looks like." Last weekend between the hedges, the University of Georgia showed what an exceptional team they are by paying their respects to Blake Anderson in an unforgettable way.
