Review: Galloway Basketball Games

Going to Galloway basketball games and other sporting events not only can be a fun experience  but it is also an important way to show our support as members of the Galloway community. According to several basketball players and other Galloway athletes, there is definitely a difference when they’re playing to a packed house. Players play better because they can feel the pressure and support from their closest friends and family. Most Friday nights in the gym are filled with games, beginning at 3:30 when the JV girls or boys play, till the final games starting as late as 7:30. Games usually last about an hour and a half and can be a fun family-friendly experience. At any given game, you can see mothers and fathers watching their children, kids running around with their friends, and nervous players getting ready for their game. If you are hungry, the concessions stand is always open and stocked with snacks and drinks.

During halftimes or in-between games, the court is open for little kids to play with their friends. Once the Varsity games start, you can hear chants such as “Let’s go Scots!” “You can't do that!” or “He’s a freshman” from anywhere on campus. For certain rivalry games, like the Mt. Vernon game, or other special nights, the students will come together to have a “White Out Night” or “Blackout Night” and dress in only white or black clothing. These nights can be the most exciting nights for Galloway basketball, because people have the most spirit and cheer the loudest. The more people in the stands and the louder they cheer, the better. When the final buzzer goes off after a hard-fought win, all the fans rush the court to congratulate the players and celebrate. After the last varsity game the courts are cleaned, the lights are shut off and everyone goes home. If we can all show up and support our Scots each and every night, Galloway Sports will pickup and our community will bond together.
