Royal Baby News

Just a few months after their wedding in May 2018, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry announced they were having a baby. And, last week our wildest dreams came true as the Duke and Duchess welcomed to the world their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. He is 7 pounds 3 ounces of pure cuteness.

The Duchess herself broke many barriers by marrying Prince Harry. Among these are the fact that she is an American and also biracial. Markle is also divorced which is considered very unorthodox by the Royals; her mother is divorced as well. Markle was formerly an actress on the hit USA drama Suits which features multiple steamy scenes. Needless to say, her road to royalty has been pretty controversial. So what does this mean for her baby? This new royal addition, who will be the seventh in line for the throne, will break many boundaries as well.

To start, like Markle, Archie is biracial. Previously, Queen Charlotte (who ruled in the 1800s) was rumored to be biracial as well. However, Archie is first modern biracial child of royal blood. Many refer to Markle as a symbol of change and modernization in the monarchy.

Archie also has an opportunity to have American citizenship. Markle has said she will obtain her British citizenship, but there is confusion as to whether she will become a dual citizen or not. However, Archie is the first royal to have “the criteria for US citizenship.” Since despite being born abroad, his mother is American.

One very interesting difference with Archie is that there is no guarantee he will have a royal title. Currently, he is planned to be seventh in line for the throne. However, this is not a guarantee that he will be a prince. His titles could include “Earl” or “Lord”, but not necessarily “Duke.”

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess! We cannot wait to see what the littlest Royal will grow up to me. Welcome to the world, Archie!
