Super Bowl 2019

Another year, another Patriots’ Super Bowl. Tom Brady led the outstanding Patriots to their 6th championship in 18 years. This solidifies Tom Brady as the greatest football player of all time and possibly the greatest athlete of all time. Last year, there was some controversy around the big game. During this same time last year, Robert Craft, Bill Belichick, and Tom Brady were butting heads on which direction the team should go. This ordeal was addressed shortly after the Super Bowl in 2018 and all hopes of the powerful Patriots dismembering had vanished.

After a shaky start, the Patriots finished the regular season with an 11-5 record and won their division. The Patriots started their playoff run against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Patriots rolled over the first Los Angeles team and reinstated their strong presence in the playoffs. The Patriots’ next round was met with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were the favorite to win the Super Bowl with rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes won the AFC MVP as a rookie and shocked the league when he led the Chiefs to the conference title game. Although the Chiefs were the AFC favorite, the Patriots pulled out a win in overtime by six points, pushing them into The Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Los Angeles Rams were going to be the toughest team the Patriots had faced all year and Bill Belichick was going up against the youngest coach in the NFL, Sean Mcvay. Sean Mcvay is only 33 years old and has already taken his team to the big game. Mcvay won coach of the year in 2017 and an NFC championship this year. Mcvay also has star quarterback Jared Goff on his side. Goff threw for 32 touchdowns this year and only being 24-years-old, led the Rams to their first Super Bowl appearance since 2002. The Rams desperately needed this win because in their last appearance, the Los Angeles team had been defeated by the Patriots with a score of 20-17. The Rams needed revenge.

The game in itself was extremely boring with almost every possession resulting in a punt from one team or the other. A field goal had been made and at halftime, the score was 3-0, Patriots. In the second half, the Rams battled back and tied the score three to three. During the second half, the Patriots defense held up with a huge interception in the fourth quarter to secure the title and a final score of 13-3. Tom Brady and the Patriots did it again, capturing their 6th title in 18 years. This feat in extremely rare in sports and makes Tom Brady one of, if not the, greatest football player of all time. Here we are again, another year, another Super Bowl title for the New England Patriots. Even though the six time champions will always have their haters, there is a reason this dynasty stays on top.
