Police Get to the Bottom of a Cold Case

In early December, much of the United States experienced intense snow storms. Albany, New York has found itself caught in the middle of these storms with over a foot of snow falling in only a day. For many of Albany’s citizens, this means they have to spend their precious time shoveling and plowing the snow off driveways and sidewalks. But don’t worry, members of the Albany police department have ensured one elderly woman won’t be concerned with this.

Officers William Pierce, Christopher Stiles, and John Schueler from the Albany police department responded to a call from a 99-year-old woman who was asking for help clearing her yard. The woman lives alone and could not have cleared the snow on her own, so calling 911 for help was her only option. Luckily, these three officers were able to go to her house and begin clearing the snow. Images of this good deed soon went viral and the officers received high praise for their service.

The storms that caused this dilemma in Albany were a part of a large series of storms that terrorized northern regions of the United States. Several feet of snow fell from the West coast and East coast. The timing of these storms immediately after Thanksgiving left thousands stranded in airports, as their flights got cancelled. For most people, this was just an inconvenience, but for some, storms like this can be paralyzing. It may not seem like a big deal to not be able to clear a driveway, but large amounts of snow can prevent someone from getting groceries, going to the mailbox, or attending to medical needs.
