Eileigh Munro: A Force to be Reckoned With

Eileigh Munro is not your typical freshman. She cares less about her instagram follower count and more about how she’s going to divide her time between her artistic interests, her calling to help those around her, and her insatiable desire to always know more.

When I first sat down to interview Eileigh, I was immediately drawn to her determination and drive. Though Eileigh is a quiet, hard working student, her interest and passion is so captivating that listening to her talk feels like having front row seats to Hamilton on Broadway.

I like to think that’s a fitting metaphor, given that Eileigh loves musical theater. She’s participated in Galloway musical theater in middle school and is excited to join the high school theater family. She couldn’t stop raving about the talent of the students in the grades above her that she’d already seen on stage.

“The high school shows are like college shows. I really admire their talent and their passion for it.”

Eileigh’s artistic predilection doesn’t stop there. She started drawing comics when she was little, making up fantasies in her head of superheroes and villains. She’s always been predisposed to creativity, but the most intriguing aspect of her personality is the delicate balance between her left and right brain. Though she’s creatively gifted, she also loves analytics.

Her primary academic interest is science: any and all kinds. Eileigh especially loves physics because “it’s how stuff works,” put simply. She loves to know how and why the world functions. She also loves neurology. I asked her why, and her eyes lit up when she responded, “the brain is fascinating. We know how it works, but we don’t know how it works.”

Eileigh may be fourteen years old, but she knows what she wants, and she’s going to work for it. I’ve yet to meet another freshman with the same drive and intensity. I feel like when I graduate from Galloway in May, I’m leaving the school in good hands. Eileigh may have varied interests and not know exactly what she wants to do with her life, but one thing is for sure: Eileigh Munro is a force to be reckoned with.
