The Best Looks of New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is an annual event that has taken place in New York City since 1943. So what exactly is NYFW? It is an abundance of fashion shows during a specific week to showcase new collections from mostly high-end designers. NYFW is one of the many fashion weeks that takes place around the world. There is usually a fall and spring fashion week in four particular cities, London, Milan, Paris, and New York.The fall fashion weeks display the collection for the opposite season, spring/summer, while the spring fashion weeks model the designer’s fall/winter collection. People who attend fashion weeks are typically celebrities or people who are involved in or have connections to the fashion industry. This year, the NYFW took place from September 6th-September 14th.

Companies featured in this year’s fashion week included Carolina Herrera, Jeremy Scott, and Oscar de la Renta. Many lesser known companies were also featured in New York Fashion Week, such as Bevza, INXX, and Vivienne Hu.

Carolina Herrera’s new creative director, Wes Gordon, debuted his designs on September 11th.. His collection features wearable plaids, often paired with blazers or unique skirts. Polka dots and florals are also prominent patterns of his designs. There is a good mixture of elegant and elaborate dresses, patterned skirts and tops, and clothes suitable to wear at work, while still remaining fashionable.

This is one of my favorite looks of the show. The mixing of colors within the polka dotted patterns throughout the top and bottom make the two piece dress look intentional and is out of the ordinary from one colored polka dots throughout.

This next look is perfect for a professional to wear to work. The simple top and skirt paired with the bright patterned blazer goes well together.

Ralph Lauren’s 50th anniversary fashion show took place during New York Fashion Week, although it technically wasn’t a part of it. His designs use autumn colors and patterns. The clothes are all for the fall/winter season and are modeled by men, women, and children.

In this outfit, the jacket pairs with the rest of the outfit so well and all of the colors fit together well. The patterned scarf kind of clutters the outfit and could be replaced with a plain scarf. The striped pants and cheetah print shoes surprisingly look really good together.

This dress is very interesting. The use of color and pattern dispersed throughout gives it an artistic vibe.

A lesser known company, Rodarte, was also at New York Fashion Week and had an interestingly designed runway show. Rodarte’s designs were fascinating but were not designs many people would actually wear. The Rodarte spring collection was only elaborate dresses, some of which were stylish and some of which were not.

This is one of the more, interesting, designs. Personally, I don’t love it, but I appreciate the use of texture on the dress.

I really like this dress. It’s summery and elegant and features a crochet/knit looking detail.

Overall, New York Fashion Week had a successful turnout with many old and new designers showcasing their new collections.
