McKenna Ching: Fashion Expert

Fashion sense is something that I have always lacked. The pairing of two clothing items while trying to make them look presentable and cute in the real world baffles me. I’ve enjoyed looking at them on other people and been curious on how they were able to do match looks together and pull them off; so, I have interviewed McKenna Ching, Galloway’s fashion queen.

McKenna has been at Galloway for 5 years now and her passion for fashion started when she was very little.

“I really like fashion and putting together outfits,” she said while rambling on and knowing that she could talk about it forever. McKenna’s love for fashion will hopefully lead her into a career “...it would definitely take a lot of work, but I would love to have a career in it.” After those words came out of her mouth, I immediately thought of the Met Gala.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser to promote the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Even though no one knows what goes on inside, we do know that the dresses are insane on the red carpet. I found one of McKenna’s other articles she has written called ‘Met Gala.’ In that article, she expressed how one of her favorite outfits of the night was Blake Lively’s dress, which was a made by Christian Louboutin and Lorraine Schwartz that took 600 hours to make. McKenna and I shared the fascination and interest of Blake Lively’s dress. Which then brought up the question, has McKenna ever designed dresses that are similar to Blake Lively’s? After of moment of nostalgia she then responded, “I used to design dresses in my room with duct tape on my mannequin but not anymore.” With that brief pause, I could tell it meant a significant amount to her, which was heartwarming.

Even though McKenna would love to have a career in fashion, she still is only a tenth grader in high school; she also has many other hobbies going on in her life such as trapeze which she does twice a week and loves it so much she will try to do it throughout high school, but she will always have school work come first. I have always enjoyed fashion and been curious on what it would be to work in the industry, so I look forward to talking to McKenna in the future.
