Sadie Hawkins

Last Saturday, Galloway’s Upper Learning had its annual Sadie Hawkins dance, and to say it went well might just be an understatement.

The dance, put together primarily by members of Student Association, was themed “Wear White; Glow All Night!” Thus, the MPR was lit in blacklight with glow in the dark tape in interesting patterns on the walls and and floor, as well as a variety of strobe and string lights.

As part of the theme, the student body was instructed to wear all white (in order to “glow all night”) and thankfully, everyone followed.

There was, not surprisingly, an abundance of glow sticks for students to deck themselves out in and facepaint that would glow in the blacklight. My friends and I put the paint on our hands, and marveled at how we glowed. The glow sticks were also a huge hit.

Even though Student Association planned the dance, there was no way anyone could plan on the energy the MPR had. To put it simply, Sadie was hype. In part, we can thank the fabulous DJ, Lars Helkov, for his fabulous song choices and great mixing that got the crowd going. Songs like “Mo Bamba” by Sheck Wes and  “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott were especially popular with the crowd.

When 10:00 rolled around, it was time for the tape to be ripped up and the fluorescent lights to come back on. Students went home in great spirits with their white clothes damp from sweat.

Reis Fierman, a sophomore, commented after the dance that it seemed like the new wave of excitement the freshmen brought into their first high school dance changed the energy in the room.

After this successful Sadie Hawkins dance, one thing’s for sure; the bar for homecoming is quite high, and there’s no doubt in my mind that Student Association will be able to pull off another victory in the winter.
